Tommy Garten Obituary, Death – Thomas Emory Garten, Sr., 62, died away on Friday, August 23, 2013, in Cape Coral. He had been a resident of Lee County, Florida for more than 20 years. He had previously lived in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Charleston, South Carolina. On July 9, 1951, he was born in Camden, South Carolina, to Lewis Garten and Frances Garten, both of whom have now passed away.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force who served during the Vietnam War and joined the North Fort Myers Church of the Nazarene. The 165th Tactical Air lift unit of the Georgia Air National Guard was where he served as a proud member. Through his studies in Physical Education, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to being a highly acclaimed insurance salesman, he also acquired a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice. This is not the least of his accomplishments.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Betty Kay Garten of North Fort Myers; one son, Thomas E. Garten, Jr. of Evansville, IN; four step-children, Tonya Blair and husband Robert of Elyria, OH, Gracie Nallon and husband Michael of Cape Coral, Rebecca Aguirre of North Ft. Myers and Sam Wilson and wife Candice also of Cape Coral; a sister, Linda Garten of North Fort Myers; nine grandchildren, Angela, Emory, Timothy, Aaron, Emily, Devin, Michael, Anthony and Cadence; as well as one great granddaughter, Madison.

On Saturday, August 31, at eleven o’clock in the morning, memorial services will be place at the North Fort Myers Church of the Nazarene, which is located at 6781 Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, 33917. Pastor Van Garner will preside over the ceremony. in a later time, private committal ceremonies will be performed in Sarasota National Cemetery for the deceased individually. Hope Hospice, located at 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33908, is the organization that is recommended to receive memorial contributions in honor of Thomas E. Garten, Sr.
